Liverpool to hold crucial talks in “coming weeks” to discuss exciting 2024 transfer

A report suggests that Liverpool will hold talks to sign Kylian Mbappe in “the coming weeks” with the French striker publicly denouncing suggestions he has already agreed to join Real Madrid.

On Monday, Mbappe's entourage release a statement to French football news outlet RMC Sport, denying he has yet made a decision on his fuure.

It reads: "There is no agreement about Kylian's future, especially as there are no discussions underway about it. No type of influence could dictate the timing of Kylian's discussions, reflections or decisions."

Even before the statement, the PSG striker told the press that he is still undecided on where he wants to take his talents once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Speaking after PSG beat US Revel 9-0 in the Trophee des Champions on Wednesday, Mbappe said: "I haven't made my decision yet.

"I haven't made a choice. With the agreement I had with the president in the summer, my decision is not important as we managed to protect all the parties and preserved the serenity of the club for the challenges to come, which is the most important."

In a bid to preserve his relationship with the club ahead of a likely free transfer in the summer, Mbappe reportedly agreed to forego his €80 million loyalty bonus which has further intensified transfer speculation.

Real Madrid remain firm favourites and are widely expected to sign the French star

“Liverpool will have to be very convincing in the coming weeks”

Meanwhile, a report from French outlet le10sport, Liverpool will hold talks to sign Mbappe in the "coming weeks."

They report that PSG are "in pole position" to extend his contract which is something of a surprising claim. The source continues, adding that Liverpool are "clearly not out of the race".

They reference talks that were held in 2020 between Jurgen Klopp and Kylian Mbappe and state "the dialouge has still not broken". Liverpool reportedly "really have a card to play".

On talks being held soon, it's reported: "Liverpool will have to be very convincing in the coming weeks.

"And while discussions would take place behind the scenes, the Reds would play very big with this operation."

While it still seems silly to assume Mbappe will sign for anyone other than Real Madrid, it's an exciting thought to imagine the Frenchman playing at Anfield.

The money involved - Liverpool would have to shock the world to pull this off

If Liverpool are to have any chance of pulling a transfer of this scale off, baring in mind they've never come close to a deal of this magnitude before, they are going to have to shock the entire world.

Let's not forget Kylian Mbappe earns £1.2 million per week. You can read more here about how much that really is because it's difficult to fathom how FSG would be able to afford a deal like that over five years given the implications.

What would the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk think knowing Mbappe has walked in and is on a £300 million contract?

It would truly test the powers of Jurgen Klopp's man-management. The German has done what even some of the most talented tacticians fail to by making his team feel like a family.

They're top of the table and defending their chance to win all four competitions this season very well as their 2-0 win over Arsenal proved. The Reds were without eight players, including captain Virgil van Dijk and the side's talisman, Mohamed Salah yet they played to a very high level and fought their way to a 2-0 win.

Mbappe is an incredible player, potentially the best talent in his entire generation, but he's a wildcard.

Is Liverpool 2.0 ready for a world superstar?
