Liverpool learn "unstoppable" attacking target has a release clause in his contract

Liverpool have learned that summer transfer target, Mohammed Kudus, has a release clause in his West Ham United contract.

The news comes as Liverpool prepares to enter a new era under incoming manager Arne Slot.

Earlier in April, Fichajes reported that Liverpool is considering Kudus as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, whose future at Anfield remains uncertain with his contract set to expire in 2025.

Now, David Ornstein reveals that Kudus' contract includes a release clause.

"If those guys [Kudus and Lucas Paquetá] have their hearts set on a move away, and the suitable offers arrive, then you suspect some movement could take place," Ornstein said on The Athletic FC Podcast.

"I'm not saying it will, but we know that Lucas Paquetá is still wanted by Manchester City.

"In terms of Kudus, there's a release clause too. He's newer to the club, he's done fantastically well so far, I suspect he'd be looking to stay for a bit longer. But we don't know, there's always interest in him, multiple clubs showed that before he ended up joining West Ham.

"I think we reported on the likes of Arsenal, definitely Brighton. Manchester United have been rumored admirers of him for a long time, and many others. Chelsea were another one too."

Why are Liverpool interested in signing Kudus this summer?

Alhough the exact amount of the release clause has not been disclosed, Kudus former coach Jeremy Seethal previously estimated that Kudus is now worth around £100 million in a January interview with the Athletic.

This valuation reflects the 23-year-old's impressive skill set, which has made him a standout performer in the Premier League. Known for his dribbling prowess and ability to take on defenders in 1v1 situations, Kudus has earned the nickname "unstoppable" from his admirers.

Kudus joined West Ham United from Ajax in the summer of 2023 after a sensational season in the Eredivisie, where he netted 18 goals across all competitions. He has continued to showcase his talents in England, catching the eye of top clubs across Europe.

Liverpool's incoming manager Arne Slot is known to favor a style of play that emphasises attacking width and exploiting 1v1 situations against fullbacks.

Kudus' strengths align with Slot's tactical preferences.

The addition of a player like Kudus could help Liverpool transition into the post-Jurgen Klopp era, providing the squad with a fresh attacking option capable of unsettling opposition defenses. Given the uncertainty surrounding Salah's future and the need for reinforcements in the forward line, the Reds' interest in Kudus is understandable.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool fans will be eager to see if the club exercises Kudus' release clause.

With his dynamic playing style and high potential, Kudus could be a key component in Liverpool's new-look attack.
