Injury update and Liverpool team news ahead of huge Arsenal cup tie

Liverpool have several missing players as they get set to face Arsenal in the FA Cup third round at the Emirates.

Sunday's match represents a chance for Jurgen Klopp's side to advance in another tournament.

The Reds are top of the Premier League, in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup and into knockout phase of the Europa League.

The 2023/24 season has turned out to be exactly what fans hoped for after the disappointing nature of the 2022/23 campaign.

Klopp, however, has some major absentees to contend with as Liverpool get set to face Arsenal.

Liverpool team news and injury update

Liverpool will still be able to name a strong team but it will be a different look entirely to the side that dominated in the 4-2 win over Newcastle United last time out.

There are eight players missing for various reasons. They are:

  • Mohamed Salah (AFCON)
  • Dominik Szoboszlai (Hamstring injury)
  • Wataru Endo (Asian Cup)
  • Andy Robertson (Dislocated shoulder)
  • Kostas Tsimikas (Broken collarbone)
  • Joel Matip (ACL rupture)
  • Thiago Alcantara (Hip injury)
  • Stefan Bajcetic (Abductor injury)

Dominik Szoboszlai is the latest absentee for Klopp to deal with and speaking at his press conference, he confirmed the Hungarian is not being rested as a precaution. He is injured.

“I can confirm it’s not a potential injury – it is an injury. Muscle, hamstring. But now we have to see,” Klopp told reporters at his pre-Arsenal press conference.

“Dom is very positive, doesn’t have a lot of pain but we have to wait a little bit. So, no chance obviously for Sunday, not for Wednesday. No.

“And then we will see, after that hopefully he might be back but we don’t know.”

Arsenal team news and injury update

The Gunners have struggled of late with results not going their way. With Liverpool now five points clear of them in the Premier League table, they will be fired up.

Mikel Arteta has his own injuries and absentees. They are:

  • Oleksandr Zinchenko (Calf issue)
  • Takehiro Tomiyasu (Asian Cup)
  • Thomas Partey (Groin injury
  • Jurien Timber (Long-term layoff)
  • Mohamed Elneny (AFCON)
  • Fabio Viera (Groin injury)

Despite doubt over his potential involvement, Arteta will assess Zinchenko ahead of kickoff tomorrow.

He said: “He is progressing well. We have another training session tomorrow and we will evaluate whether he is available or not to play and start the game.”
