Agreement reached - Report: Liverpool sanction “huge” wage increase to seal deal

According to fresh reports, Liverpool have reached a preliminary agreement with Ruben Amorim, the current manager of Sporting Lisbon.

The discussion was highlighted on the latest episode of the Inside Track podcast by transfer expert Pete O'Rourke, who noted that negotiations involving Amorim's agent are progressing well and nearing completion, setting the stage for Amorim’s potential move to Anfield.

Pete O'Rourke commented on the Inside Track podcast: "Liverpool are making headway in the search for Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.

“Amorim is the red-hot favourite to replace the German in the dugout at Anfield.

“Talks are ongoing with Liverpool and his agent and a deal has been agreed in principle.

“It looks like he will make that move to the Premier League in the summer.”

The club began searching for a successor to Jurgen Klopp after he announced in January his decision to depart following an incredible nine-year spell at Anfield.

An exclusive from Football Insider on Thursday April 11 suggests that Liverpool are prepared to substantially increase Amorim’s current weekly salary of £50,000 at Sporting to secure his services.

Despite being previously overshadowed by Bayer Leverkusen manager and former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso as the Reds' initial choice, Amorim has emerged as the leading candidate.

While Amorim has publicly refuted any existing agreements with Liverpool or other clubs, FI sources claim that a formal announcement could be imminent.

On Thursday, the Portuguese manager was firm with reporters when he said: “I did NOT meet Liverpool for any interview and there’s no agreement, it’s not true.

“I’m Sporting manager, I want to win here and I didn’t meet any club. Nothing has been agreed.

“Stop with this story. This is the last time I speak about my future.”

Amorim has notably led Sporting Lisbon to considerable success since his appointment in 2020, including a Portuguese league title in the 2020/21 season.

Currently, his team leads the league, maintaining a four-point advantage over Benfica with a game in hand.

Liverpool, who recently drew 2-2 with Manchester United, holds the second position in the Premier League.

They are set to face Crystal Palace at Anfield in their next match on the upcoming Sunday, April 14.
