Ruben Amorim must have given the green light for Liverpool move despite comments - Our view

Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is the new favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp as head coach of Liverpool FC.

On Thursday, Amorim appeared to be irritated with the press when he told the gathered reporters that he has not held an interview with Liverpool and has no agreement with the Reds.

Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda followed this by immediately reporting that Amorim has already decided to join the Reds in the summer which will be announced after both Sporting and Liverpool have played their final games of the season.

But if, as Sky Sports Dharmesh Sheth pointed out today, the due diligence process is underway at Liverpool over appointing Amorim, the 30-year-old coach or his agents must have given the green light.

Liverpool are not known for wasting any energy in the transfer market and with Michael Edwards now CEO of Football, he will not be working on assessing if Amorim is the right fit for the club if there's no guarantee he will take the job when offered it.

Xabi Alonso's decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen despite months of courtship from Liverpool is one reason for this to be the case.

Liverpool have no more time to waste, however, with less than two months to go until the end of the season - at which point the expectation among fans will be that Klopp's replacement will be confirmed - time is running out.

Getting a new manager in before the end of the season is vital especially when the man Amorim is replacing is none other than Jurgen Klopp.

If Liverpool are doing their due diligence without some kind of encouragement from either Amorim, his agent or Sporting I would be very surprised and a bit annoyed.
