Report: Liverpool can hand Amorim his dream signing for bargain £40M fee

Liverpool could secure the services of Sporting Lisbon's Goncalo Inacio for a reduced fee of £40 million.

The English club, currently considering Ruben Amorim as a potential successor to their long-standing manager Jurgen Klopp, sees Inacio as a key target should Amorim take charge.

Ruben Amorim, the highly-regarded Sporting Lisbon manager, has started each match with Inacio, underlining the defender’s importance to his team's strategy.

Last week, a report from Jornal de Noticias claimed up to four players, including Marcus Edwards, Ousmane Diomande, Gonçalo Inácio, and Morten Hjulmand, might join Liverpool if Amorim makes the switch to Anfield.

Initially valued at around €60 million, Inacio's price has apparently dropped to £40 million, offering Liverpool a more affordable opportunity to strengthen their defence.

Football Insider's senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke, on the latest edition of the Inside Track podcast, highlighted that Inacio's availability for a lower price reflects the high regard in which he is held, not just as a player but as an international for Portugal.

This adjustment in the price tag is seen as a strategic move by Liverpool to capitalise on Sporting's situation, where they seem resigned to losing him soon.

At only 22 years old, Inacio has already made significant strides in his career, amassing over 150 appearances for Sporting across all competitions this season alone.

His role as a regular starter under Amorim, and his involvement in the Portugal national team, where he has earned six caps, underlines his rapid development.

Inacio's potential transfer to Liverpool is not just seen through a financial lens but also a tactical one.

Inacio could be the long term for Virgil van Dijk

Just as we never wanted to consider Jurgen Klopp leaving, fans need to consider that one day Virgil van Dijk will also leave the club.

At 32, he has limited time left at the top even if he doesn't look like he will fade away any time soon.

That said, the Dutchman won't be around forever and Inacio may well be the long-term solution.

The 22-year-old is developing a strong reputation and if he's ready for the move to the Premier League, Liverpool could certainly use him especially with Joel Matip leaving the club this summer.
