Liverpool considering "surprise" manager - he's available right now

Former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has surfaced as an unexpected candidate under consideration by Liverpool as they plan for Jurgen Klopp's departure at the end of the season.

Klopp has confirmed he will leave his role as Liverpool's manager after this season.

Although Liverpool has yet to start formal discussions with any potential successors, they are actively gathering information and conducting thorough research on their preferred candidates.

Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim remains a top contender for the role; however, he has refuted claims of any discussions or agreements with Liverpool.

Kovac, known for his achievements with Bayern Munich and Monaco, is currently available after parting ways with Wolfsburg earlier this season, according to the Daily Mail.

His representatives have recently been in London, exploring opportunities with Premier League clubs in anticipation of upcoming managerial jobs this summer.

Kovac, originally from Berlin and a former Croatia national team captain, transitioned from a playing career as a defensive midfielder to management, where he achieved notable success.

He led Eintracht Frankfurt to a German Cup victory in 2018 and secured a league and cup double with Bayern Munich the following year.

He managed Monaco from 2020 to 2022 before his stint at Wolfsburg ended in March.

With interest growing, Kovac is also being considered by several Bundesliga clubs for potential managerial roles.

Is Niko Kovac a serious target for Liverpool?

Whether or not Kovac is high up Liverpool's list is a bit irrelevant right now with the Reds hierarchy focusing on Ruben Amorim even in spite of his comments last week.

The 39-year-old Portuguese coach could become the next Liverpool coach if the club finds no issues during its due diligence process which is currently underway.

One thing is clear, whoever replaces Klopp will need to be ready for the incredible amount of pressure they will be under once they take the Anfield hot seat.
