Fabrizio Romano: Ruben Amorim is “not the only option” to replace Jurgen Klopp

Amid all the rumours surrounding the next potential manager for Liverpool, a clear-cut successor to Jurgen Klopp has yet to emerge.

Contrary to recent speculation, renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have not met with Rúben Amorim, and there is no agreement in place for the Sporting CP coach to take over at Anfield.

Reporting in his Daily Briefing, the journalist says: "Liverpool have not met with Rúben Amorim and there is no agreement for him to take over at Anfield.

"The Sporting CP coach is not the only option."

Interestingly, he mentions that Amorim is not the only manager under consideration although he is certainly the most linked with the move to Anfield.

His contract, according to 90 Min, includes a "gentleman's agreement" which would allow a club like Liverpool ("a top European side") to sign him for €10m (£8.6m) instead of having to pay his €20m (£17.1m) release clause for non-Portuguese sides.

Several outlets have reported that an agreement has been reached with the 39-year-old coach but just as we saw with Xabi Alonso, who publicly removed himself from contention for the role, putting all your eggs in one basket would be a dangerous approach for Liverpool to take.

Amorim's connection to the Liverpool job has been a topic of intense discussion, but Romano's clarification puts a pause on those rumours.

It appears that Amorim is far from being the only candidate considered for the role. The list of potential managers is diverse, signaling that the club’s search for a new leader is still wide open.

Among the names linked to the Liverpool job by various outlets are Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann, and Thomas Frank, each bringing a distinct style and set of achievements that could appeal to the Liverpool hierarchy.

De Zerbi’s innovative tactics at Brighton have caught the eye of many top clubs, while Nagelsmann’s imminent departure from Bayern Munich makes him a free agent in the summer.

Thomas Frank has also garnered attention with his work at Brentford, proving his ability to maximise results from limited resources.

Thiago Motta’s name has also surfaced in the conversation. The former Italian international has made impressive strides in his coaching career, known for his tactical acumen and progressive football philosophy.

For the time being, Amorim does seem like the strongest candidate but given Liverpool's unpredictability in the market, anything could still happen.
