Liverpool chief Tom Werner was at Anfield last night but the reason may be more serious than exciting

Amid talk of an agreement being reached with Ruben Amorim to take over as Liverpool manager in the summer, Tom Werner was spotted at Anfield on Thursday.

Werner, Liverpool chairman, sparked a bit of excitement on Twitter as supporters speculated whether he was on Merseyside to conclude the appointment process for Jurgen Klopp's successor.

However, on a night which will go down as Klopp's last European night under the lights at Anfield if Liverpool cannot turn a 3-0 deficit around, Werner is likely not on Merseyside to officially appoint Amorim.

That will likely only happen at the end of the season when he has completed his title charge with Sporting Lisbon.

Amid a protest over increased Liverpool ticket prices, it's much likelier the American chairman is in the country to find a solution.

Last week, Liverpool announced their intention to raise ticket prices by two per cent for the 2024/25 season which was met with backlash by supporters and fan representative groups like Spirit of Shankly.

The put a statement on Twitter on Wednesday: "We are disappointed in the Football Club’s decision towards ticket prices for 24/25.

"In response, there will be no flags on The Kop for Thursday night’s game. Unlike the Club’s own approach, this has been agreed in consultation with other fan groups."

What has Jurgen Klopp had to say about the ticket prices prostest?

"I understand the concerns and the discussion," the manager said, via Sky Sports. "It's a tricky one from my point of view. We want to have people in the stadium and we want to have it available for everybody.

"We are a self-sustaining club. As long as I have been here, I can tell everybody each pound we earned went directly back into football. There's a lot of good things you can say the club is doing but I understand where the supporters are coming from.

"I'm pretty sure they will find a solution. What we should make sure is that there's nothing that gets between us and the supporters. Between the whistles, we just have to be Liverpool."
