Bargain €20M+ signing now realistic as player always dreamed of signing for Liverpool

Morten Frendrup is one of the players on Liverpool's list of defensive midfield targets and it has now emerged that he has always dreamed of joining the Reds.

Speaking to Danish outlet Sjællandske Nyheder in 2018, via the Liverpool ECHO, he said: “It’s a dream I’ve always had, and I believe it will succeed. If I work hard, I believe in it.”

Recently, Paul Gorst confirmed reports of Liverpool interest in the Genoa midfielder.

He said: “Speaking to people at the club, people outside the club and whatever else, it seems that he’s one Liverpool are looking at."

Gorst did caveat this claim by saying the club is "looking at loads [of defensive midfielder] at the moment as their search for Fabinho's replacement continues."

Frendrup's long-term passion for Liverpool is sure to be a factor that works in his favour although he will only join the club if Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment staff genuinely believe he's the right fit.

A move to sign him would likely only cost a bargain fee of €20 million (£17.2M) but his stats suggest he could be worth far more to Liverpool if they do sign him in the summer.

Data from Fbrefs shows that he's one of the best emerging talents in the defensive midfield market.

His most phenomenal stat point is that he ranks in the 99th percentile for tackles! Of all the defensive midfielders in Europe, only a handful average more tackles than his 3.9 per 90.

He also ranks in the 92nd percentile for the number of times he is dispossessed on average. Roughly, he loses the ball once every three games which is exactly what you would hope for from your no.6.

Overall, he seems a very exciting target to replace Fabinho but as Gorst said recently, Liverpool are considering a large number of defensive midfielders across Europe before they make a decision on who to sign.
