Journo close to LFC: Liverpool are definitely interested in €20M-rated Morten Frendrup

Liverpool are definitely interested in signing Morten Frendrup, journalist Paul Gorst reports, after claims the Reds are favourites to complete a bargain €20 million move to bring him to Anfield.

When Fabinho left the club in the summer, many fans were left deeply concerned that a natural defensive midfielder wasn't signed to replace him.

Of course, Liverpool tried to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia but players opted to join Chelsea instead.

As a result, Jurgen Klopp turned his attention to former Stuttgart midfielder Wataru Endo.

Despite teething issues, Endo has been a fantastic player for the Reds and is now a major miss due to his attendance at the Asian Cup with Japan.

However, Liverpool remain on the lookout for a no.6 that suits their tactical style although it remans unlikely one will be signed in the January transfer window.

Latest reports on Liverpool plans to sign Morten Frendrup

A report from Italian outlet Tuttosport suggests that Liverpool are in "the front row" to sign Genoa star Morten Frendrup but they face competition from Juventus, West Ham and Crystal Palace.

The Serie A outfit wants over €20 million (£17.2M) to sell him which is quite an affordable fee.

Liverpool interest has now been corroborated by a source closer to the club.

Paul Gorst confirms Liverpool interest in signing Frendup

Liverpool ECHO correspondent Paul Gorst has verified Jurgen Klopp's interest in Frendrup but adds that he is unsure how advanced plans to sign him are.

Speaking to the Anfield Wrap, Gorst said: "It was one that kind of cropped up a few weeks back now

“Speaking to people at the club, people outside the club and whatever else, it seems that he’s one Liverpool are looking at.

"But I’d caveat that with that they are looking at loads at the moment. I don’t know if there is a particular front-runner for the long-term defensive midfield position.

“He seems to be having a good year at Genoa. The big drawback for the people I’m speaking to at the club is that the homegrown issue is very much there. But maybe one to keep an eye on. Not for January but maybe in the summer.”
