Liverpool appear set to make a big move in the transfer market this summer with the signing of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

Multiple reports suggest that the Reds are in pole position to sign the young midfielder, with sources close to the player reportedly indicating that a move to Anfield is "highly likely."

The Mirror first reported that despite Chelsea not being resigned to losing him just yet, Liverpool are in pole position to land his signature.

With Klopp planning "a major overhaul", Mount is wanted by the German to usher in a new-look midfield next season.

Mount, who has been an integral part of Chelsea's success under Thomas Tuchel, has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

The midfielder is said to be demanding wages worth £240,000 per week, and with his contract set to expire in June 2024, Chelsea may be tempted to cash in on him this summer.

Liverpool, according to sources close to talkSPORT's Chief Football Correspondent Alex Crook, are "highly likely" to sign Mount this summer.

The 24-year-old could be the next Chelsea player to take his career to the next level by joining Liverpool after both Daniel Sturridge and Mohamed Salah reached new heights after trading Stamford Bridge for Anfield.

The potential transfer of Mount to Liverpool would be a massive boost for Jurgen Klopp, who is looking to add more depth and quality to his ailing midfield. Mount's ability to play in various positions, tireless work rate, and eye for goal would make him a perfect fit for Liverpool's high-pressing system.

Liverpool fans will be excited by the prospect of Mount joining the club, and the number of reports suggesting a deal is probable will only increase the anticipation.

The midfielder's form has tanked this season but it's difficult to single him out for criticism when, much like Liverpool, every Chelsea player has had his performance issues.

Despite only scoring and assisting nine times this season, Mount scored 13 and assisted 16 last season, just missing out on 30 total goal contributions for the 2021/22 season.

While Liverpool will have to pay a substantial transfer fee and reach a compromise on Mount's wage demands, the potential benefits of signing the midfielder are huge. He would add depth and quality to the Reds' midfield, and his versatility would give Klopp more options when it comes to team selection.

With Steve McManaman saying he believes Liverpool have the funds to sign both Mount and Jude Bellingham, the next phase of Klopp's tenure as manager could be a truly exciting one.

Even before the inevitable clear-out and rebuild, there is a lot to be excited about.

Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez have shown promising signs as an attacking unit. Diogo Jota has come back from injury and looks like he will have no problems with his new teammates, while Diaz will no doubt return to the side like he was never injured.

To add Bellingham and Mount to the midfield supporting those attackers is a frightening thought for rivals of the Reds.
