Liverpool "highly likely" to complete deal to sign £60m midfielder; Talks have been underway since January

Liverpool are "highly likely" to sign Mason Mount, some sources have told talkSPORT chief football correspondent Alex Crook, with the Reds said to be increasingly confident of completing a deal.

Jurgen Klopp is certain to make multiple midfield signings at the end of the season to solve his side's biggest issues.

There has been a lack of stability and control in the Liverpool engine room and many fans have called for Liverpool to sign Jude Bellingham.

Mason Mount is the latest to be linked with a move to Anfield and with his contract set to expire in June 2024, Liverpool can pounce now to make the most of Chelsea's failure to tie him down to a new deal earlier.

He is, however, demanding wages of £240,000 per week to stay at Chelsea. He may accept less for a move to Liverpool but that is unconfirmed at this point.

According to Alex Crook, Liverpool grow "increasingly confident" of signing Mason Mount. It's even claimed that "some sources" close to Mount have even described a move to Merseyside as “highly likely”.

Jurgen Klopp once described Mount as a £60million player and while he has battled to maintain a level warranting such a huge transfer fee, he could be worth that and more to Klopp.

Not only is Mount capable of creating key chances and scoring goals himself, his dribbling and direct runs would help create space for the likes of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.

This season, Mount has 3 goals and 6 assists in 32 games in all competitions. That's hardly a world class return but it's difficult to judge individual Chelsea players given the turbulence surrounding their club.

Last season, the Englishman scored 13 goals and got 16 assists. Now, that is an incredible return and that's what Mount likely expects of himself.

An issue that he has discovered this season (that might not be an issue if he sealed a move to Anfield) is that his chances are not being put away.

Liverpool boast the likes of Diaz, Salah, Nunez, Gakpo and Jota and with a creative player like Mount behind them them, a collective increase in attacking output is likely.
