Completing £96.6m signing is in danger as Liverpool talks may collapse after worrying report

Liverpool may have to wait a little longer to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The 19-year-old has not ruled out staying at the German club for another season, following in the footsteps of former teammate Erling Haaland, who joined Manchester City at the start of the season.

Bellingham's contract with Dortmund is set to expire in June 2025, and the club is reportedly working hard to get him to renew it.

However, Liverpool face stiff competition from Manchester City and Real Madrid, who have also been linked with the talented youngster.

Jude Bellingham could remain at Borussia Dortmund beyond 2023

Football Insider reports that "Liverpool talks with Jude Bellingham could collapse as an unexpected twist is revealed."

Despite appearing poised for a blockbuster move away from the Bundesliga, the player and his entourage have yet to decide on which path he should take.

According to Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl, there has been "no development" on Bellingham's future, and called on fans to be "patient for a little longer."

This could suggest that Bellingham is still weighing up his options and may take more time before making a decision.

One potential obstacle for Liverpool is the reported €110 million (over £96.6m) fee that Dortmund may demand for Bellingham's signature.

While Liverpool are one of the richest clubs in the world, it remains to be seen whether the club will be willing to compete with City and Real Madrid in a bidding war for the youngster.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's attempts to sign Bellingham may have hit a snag. The player is reportedly unsure about moving to Stamford Bridge, which could have something to do with the club's exorbitant spending in recent years.

The prodigious midfielder's contract is not set to expire until 2025 but the demand for his signature means there may be no time to wait for him.

In the meantime, fans must be patient and wait to see what the future holds for one of Europe's most exciting young talents.
