Liverpool make contact over signing 6ft1 Brazilian in January

Liverpool are in need of a centre-back signing despite the encouraging emergence of 20-year-old Jarell Quansah and they have reportedly returned to talks with Fluminense.

This time, however, it's not regarding Andre Trindade but instead, 26-year-old central defender Marcilio Florencio Mota Filho referred to simply as Nino.

Jurgen Klopp recently lost Joel Matip to an ACL rupture which means he may have already played his last game for the club with his contract set to expire in July 2024.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, who published a report on the clubs interested in signing the 6ft1 Brazilian, Liverpool have made contact with Fluminense to enquire about what it would take to sign him in January.

The Reds face competition for Nino's signature with Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Feyenoord and AS Roma all interested in acquiring his services.

Much like Andre, the Brazil international seriously impressed during the Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup campaigns.

When might Liverpool sign Nino?

Nino is under contract with Fluminense until the end of 2024 but he has indicated that he plans to leave the club imminently, making a move abroad likely in the January transfer window.

In addition to his own desire to leave, most Brazilian clubs refuse to sanction overseas transfers in the summer transfer window as it comes during the middle of their season which starts in April.

Good news for Liverpool is that his contract includes a €7 million (£6M) release clause. This makes `Nino an attractive prospect for the Anfield outfit.
