Liverpool still have a chance to sign 22-year-old after rejected €30m bid

Liverpool may still have a chance of signing Andre Trindade with the Brazilian dreaming of a move to the Premier League after a successful season with Fluminense.

The 22-year-old helped his side to a 2-0 win over Al-Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final and will now likely face Manchester City in the final. Pep Guardiola's side face Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds in their semi-final tonight.

Andre continues to shine for Fluminense but his future remains no closer to being resolved despite intense speculation over the last few months.

Transfer latest on Andre Trindade

According to a report from Brazilian outlet Globo, Fluminense are now considering holding onto their talented midfielder until the 2024 summer transfer window.

They have yet to receive an offer that matches their €35 million asking price. Several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Fulham, are interested but "they have not yet formalized a proposal" that is acceptable to the Copa Libertadores champions.

Liverpool had a €30 million (£25m) offer rejected in the summer as Fluminense were not willing to sell mid-way through their season but now, with their 2022/23 season close to completion, the Reds have shown little sign of returning with a fresh offer.

With Jurgen Klopp's squad in need of a defensive midfielder, there remains an opportunity for the German to return for Andre in January.

Another claim on Andre's future comes from Ben Jacobs, who claims that Fulham have an "agreement in principle" to sign him.

Andre reveals his transfer wish

Speaking after Fluminense beat Al-Ahly 2-0 on Monday evening, Andre revealed his transfer ambitions.

He said: "I watch the Premier League and it's a big dream to play there.

"I'm focused on finishing the season with Fluminense and realising our own dream of winning the Club World Cup.

"But my dream is clear, to be a Premier League player."

When asked who he would join if given a choice between Real Madrid and Barcelona, the 22-year-old replied: “For sure Barça and Real Madrid are two big clubs — but I think I would choose Barcelona”.

Liverpool remain in need of a player with Andre's skillset but if Fulham were to sign the young midfielder, it could open the door for a move to sign Joao Palhinha.

The 28-year-old is the better player but his age may be an issue given Liverpool's preference for signing young players between the age of 21 and 25 with huge potential.

Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, for example, suit the transfer policy better. That said, Liverpool are in need of a new no.6 and Palhinha would complete Klopp's starting XI and seriously boost their title credentials.
