Fabrizio Romano reveals what "the plan is" for Liverpool and Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool have officially recalled Fabio Carvalho from what was supposed to be a season-long loan with RB Leipzig.

Due to a lack of minutes, the Reds ended their transfer agreement with the Bundesliga side.

He joined the club from Fulham but Jurgen Klopp sent him out on loan to develop but after Xavi Simons joined Leipzig, it was always going to be more challenging for Carvalho to start regularly.

This season, Simons has played 1,894 minutes, grabbing six goals and nine assists while the Liverpool starlet has played 360 minutes without any goal contributions.

What is Liverpool's transfer plan for Fabio Carvalho?

Fabrizio Romano spoke to Caught Offside about the matter and revealed what the plan is now that the 21-year-old is back on Merseyside.

The Italian journalist said: “As reported a few weeks ago, Liverpool were not happy with the amount of playing time Carvalho had at Leipzig.

"Although the Bundesliga side were quite keen to keep him, he was barely playing, and so his return to Anfield was officially announced yesterday.

“So, what now? The plan is for Carvalho to have a new loan move for the second half of the season. Carvalho will leave Liverpool and there are multiple Premier League and Championship clubs (including Southampton) keen on signing him on loan.

“I also think that at this stage in his career a loan move is the best solution for the boy. He’s a big talent, it’s not been easy for him for the last year or so but I’m sure with the right loan move and regular minutes he can bounce back.”

What does the future of Carvalho's Liverpool career look like?

I have been concerned about Carvalho's Liverpool prospects since it became clear to me that there was tension between him and Klopp.

In the summer, before he departed for his loan spell in Germany, the attacking midfielder revealed he rarely spoke to the manager.

When asked if Klopp gave him any advice before moving to Saxony, Carvalho gave a very concerning reply.

“I don’t really speak to him, to be fair,” he said.

"He didn’t really give me any advice. I just had to learn as I go, and I feel that is better for me to mature anyway, both as a person and a footballer.

“I was told that I would play as a No. 10, but we didn’t really play with a No. 10 last year. When we play with a No. 10, then I can get on my prominent side, and I am able to turn.

“That’s why I would say it didn’t work out, and whether I will be here or at Liverpool next year, we will have to see how it works out.”
