"Special" star may have played his last Liverpool game after comments

Fabio Carvalho may have already played his last game for Liverpool after some pretty harsh words he had to say on Jurgen Klopp.

The 20-year-old has left the club on a season-long loan to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and while many fans hope to see him return to the fold next summer, that now seems remote.

After signing from Fulham last summer, Carvalho played just 340 minutes in the Premier League and despite the lack of fit midfielders at Klopp's disposal, he found it impossible to break into the starting XI.

Many believed that the young star simply found it difficult to acclimatise at Liverpool or wasn't impressing in trailing enough. Whatever the real reason is, Carvalho is not on speaking terms with Klopp now.

What does Carvalho have to say about Liverpool and Klopp?

Speaking to the press on tour with Leipzig, the 20-year-old spoke freely about his first season at Liverpool and his relationship with Klopp.

He said: “I went to [Klopp], I spoke to him, and together we came to the conclusion that it would be better off for me to go somewhere.

"First of all, I’m here to learn. There’s a great team, great coaches. It’s only for a year, but you never know what can happen in the future.”

When asked if what Klopp's advice was before he left for Leipzig, Carvalho's response was concerning.

“I don’t really speak to him, to be fair,” he said.

“He didn’t really give me any advice. I just had to learn as I go, and I feel that is better for me to mature anyway, both as a person and a footballer.

“I was told that I would play as a No. 10, but we didn’t really play with a No. 10 last year.

“When we play with a No. 10, then I can get on my prominent side, and I am able to turn.

“That’s why I would say it didn’t work out, and whether I will be here or at Liverpool next year, we will have to see how it works out.”

What does the future hold for Carvalho at Liverpool?

A report from Transfermarkt suggests that there is a deeper reason to Carvalho's treatment at Liverpool, suggesting he was recruited by staff no longer at the club.

This is Anfield claims this refers to former sporting director Julian Ward, who was replaced his summer by new man Jorg Schmadtke.

If true, Carvalho has been left out in the cold by Liverpool and his reaction is understandable. At the same time, his comments have now antagonised fans and makes returning to the club a difficult proposition.

He has very much left the door open to an exit at the end of his loan spell, saying: "you never what can happen in the future."

If the midfielder does indeed leave next summer, it will be disappointing as it's clear Carvalho is a talented player. Harvey Elliott said he's "special" and although he may not have a long career at Anfield, I hope he shines regardless.

If Klopp can't find a way for him to fit into his system, it's best for all parties to move on.
