Chelsea have "sent formal, official bid" for €21 million Liverpool alternative to Andre

Liverpool are in the market for a defensive midfielder but could now lose another South American target to another Premier League team.

Conflicting claims this week emerged on the Reds' interest in signing Fluminense's highly rated Andre Trindade, who starred during his side's victorious Copa Libertadores tournament.

The Brazilian side beat Argentina outfit Boca Juniors 2-1 in the final to further validate Andre's performances further with a claim emerging on Friday that Manchester United have now approached Fluminense after scouting the 22-year-old during the competition.

One Brazilian journalist, Emmanuel Luiz, believes Liverpool still have a very good chance of signing Andre, who has reportedly wanted to join the Reds since the summer.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also keen on the midfielder. But Liverpool, are reportedly now looking at other alternatives to replace Fabinho after his move to Al-Ittihad in the summer.

Who is Gabriel Moscardo? And what are the latest reports linking him with a move to Liverpool?

According to a report from TeamTalk, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Barcelona are all vying for the chance to sign 18-year-old Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo.

Out of those three clubs, Liverpool are in the most need of a new defensive midfielder although signing a teenager to replace a 30-year-old Fabinho would be a questionable strategy.

It also wouldn't follow the line of reasoning that Liverpool reportedly have on signing a new no.6. The Liverpool Echo this week reported that the reason for the Anfield outfit supposedly pulling the plug on Andre is due to concerns over how his arrival would impact Stefan Bajcetic.

It might not matter though as Chelsea have already sent a "formal, official bid" for Moscardo, according to Fabrizio Romano. The offer is worth €21 million fixed without add-ons or a sell-on clause.

The Blues' offer would also allow the midfielder to stay at the club on loan until June 2024. However, Corinthians want a higher fee to sanction his departure.

More on Moscardo to Liverpool

Luiz, the reporter that has provided a little bit of hope for those that want to see Andre move to Anfield, also mentioned Liverpool's interest in signing Moscardo this week.

Speaking to the Redmen TV, Luiz said: “My feeling is that Liverpool will hire a defensive midfielder from South America.

"The biggest feelings that we have right now is Andre from Fluminense, Redondo from Argentina Juniors or Moscardo from Corinthians.

"Redondo is from Argentina Juniors and Moscardo is from Corinthians. Andre is a world-class player right now, he is ready for European calibre, and Liverpool just need to improve the offer a little bit."
