French star Klopp called “a big talent” has been “axed” from training - could head back to Anfield

Liverpool talent Billy Koumetio could be headed back to Anfield after being mysteriously dropped from USL Dunkerque's squad.

The 21-year-old is spending the 2023/24 season on loan with the Ligue 2 outfit but, according to French newspaper La Voix Du Nord, Koumetio is "no longer taking part" in team training sessions.

No reason as to why is provided but despite the expectation that the French star would be with USL until the end of the season, he could now return to Anfield.

In 2020, Jurgen Klopp hailed the defender as a "big talent" but his career has not taken on the meteoric rise that was first expected with Jarell Quansah now far ahead of Koumetio in his development.

In his time in France, Koumetio has only made nine appearances for a total of 740 minutes which is very disappointing.

There is a lot of hope he can still develop into a top player but time is running out to make an impression at Liverpool.

It's not easy to break into a team like Liverpool's when the likes of Virgil van Dijk are strutting their stuff. Koumetio has been unable to capitalise on injuries and suspensions over the last few years, however.

Liverpool will make a decision on the player's future when he returns from his loan spell. With it set to be cut short, a decision will be made soon.
