Barca want to sign £200k/week Liverpool star in Jan after Gavi's ACL rupture

| by Michael Mongie

On Sunday evening, the incredibly talented Gavi was struck down with what Barcelona report was a "complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament".

It's a devastating blow for such an exciting young player but now the Catalonians are on the search for a player to cover him in his absence.

As we all know from Virgil van Dijk's ACL tear in 2020, ACL tears can take between six to nine months to repair with some cases sidelining players for over a year.

Now, according to SPORT, Barca are investigating a reunion with Thiago Alcantara, who last played for the club in 2013 before moving to Bayern Munich.

Liverpool "will not put obstacles in his way in the winter market" as they want to reward his loyalty. He rejected interest from the Saudi Pro League in the summer and while injuries have held him back, that loyalty is respected at Anfield.

Not that I want to stop Thiago from joining his boyhood club but it would be a questionable decision to sign cover for Gavi by signing on of the most injury prone players in Europe.

Thiago is incredibly gifted but it's tragic how his body fails him so regularly. He is still regarded as one of the best of his generation despite struggling to stay fit in recent years.

Liverpool are hoping he can return from the setbacks that have kept him out of action for longer than expected.

His £200,000/week contract at Anfield will expire at the end of the season but if Barcelona want him in January, they will need to pay a nominal fee to Liverpool.
