Arsenal wiling to match €45M release clause: Liverpool and Chelsea already entered "the bidding"

Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign exciting Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool and Chelsea have already "decided to enter the bidding", according to a November report from Depor, as they lead the Premier League pursuit of the 22-year-old defender.

Now, a report from Football Insider claims that Arsenal and Manchester United, and potentially Aston Villa, are also interested but it's Liverpool that have reportedly "set their sights" on signing Frimpong.

Jurgen Klopp has had to contend with several injuries to key defensive players with Trent Alexander-Arnold the latest ruled out of action with a painful knee injury

The Scouser played around 30 minutes against Arsenal with a minor lateral ligament tear, as per Sky Sports, which further underlines the need for defensive reinforcements this month.

"Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game [against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round]," says Ljinders.

"So he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover. He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let's see after that."

Frimpong would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool and would further free Alexander-Arnold to continue his transition in midfield.

Aside from that, the 22-year-old Leverkusen star would also give Klopp peace of mind knowing that if Trent gets injured more long-term, it wouldn't damage his defence lineup beyond recover.
