Liverpool want to sign "special player" for €45 million

Liverpool want to bolster their squad and, according to reports, they could move for Jeremie Frimpong.

Xabi Alonso, who himself has been linked with Liverpool, has been closely watching as Frimpong has risen to prominence this season.

Bayer Leverkusen lead the Bundesliga table and remain unbeaten which is, in part, due to the form of Frimpong.

The Dutch right-back has been in wonderful form this season and has caught the attention of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Chelsea, according to Depor.

"Chelsea and Liverpool have decided to enter the bidding" for Frimpong, the report states.

Liverpool have included the 22-year-old on their "priority transfer list for the 2024/2025 season. Signing him next summer would cost around €45 million.

Alonso has reportedly requested he bring Frimpong with him to Madrid in 2024 but he is now worth more than the €35 million that Florentino Perez was reportedly prepared to pay.

When Frimpong was called up to the Netherlands' squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Alonso sang his praises, saying: “He deserves this chance to participate in the World Cup.

"He has a very big impact on our game. He is a very good player, but for me is even a special player.

"It is logical that Louis Van Gaal gives him the chance because he is a difference player."
