"A big club, like Liverpool”: Striker with €100M release clause urged to move to Anfield

Liverpool have been urged to sign Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres by a club legend as the Swede stuns Portugal with his attacking displays.

This season, the 25-year-old has a whopping 20 goals and 10 assists so far. He should be able to increase that tally quite significantly which is why it's no surprise to see the biggest clubs in Europe linked with signing him.

Manuel Fernandes, Sporting icon, says he would like to see Gyokeres move to the Premier League, tipping Liverpool and Arsenal as two sides he could thrive at.

“Gyokeres is breaking records at Sporting and, honestly, I can say he is better than me,” Fernandes told A Bola.

“Since I left Sporting, I haven’t seen a striker as complete as him. There are equals, but better players? No. He is a complete player. He both scores and scores. This quality is crucial in a striker.”

On where Gyokeres should take his talents, Fernandes said: “I hope he doesn’t leave Sporting anytime soon. It would be difficult for any club to activate his release clause in the winter market. If you have to leave, let it be to a big club, like Liverpool or Bayern Munich.

“But for now, it is clear that he is doing well at Sporting. He is a serious and focused player.”

It would be hellishly expensive to sign the exciting centre-forward with his Sporting contract featuring a €100 million (£85M).

Given that Liverpool reached an agreement with Benfica to sign Darwin Nunez for a similar fee, it seems unlikely that they will repeat it by signing Gyokeres.

Nunez has toiled at times but he remains an exciting player with a lot of potential. His finishing in the six-yard box could use work but if he can find consistency in front of goal, he will be one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League.
