Liverpool pushing hard to sign Goncalo Inacio in January as club signs his replacement

Liverpool are pushing hard to bring Goncalo Inacio to Anfield this month as Jurgen Klopp looks for a solution to his injury crisis in defence.

The Reds may be top of the Premier League table but if Joe Gomez were to suffer an injury, they would find themselves in a truly precarious position.

Joel Matip, Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are all injured but Inacio could be the perfect signing to help the Merseysiders deal with the number of games at hand.

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Sporting Lisbon have agreed a €750,000 fee with Leixões for the transfer of Rafael Silva which could pave the way for Liverpool to sign Inacio.

Ruben Amorim, Sporting boss, spoke about Silva's impending arrival: “Rafael can be presented and then we will do the evaluation.

"He has very good characteristics. He is a player we appreciate. He can be a great player.”

Liverpool are pushing to complete a deal worth around £52 million to sign the Portugal international this month with a recent report suggesting that Sporting consider his departure to be "inevitable" as Liverpool accelerate their transfer approach.

Inacio would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool to make this month as he's able to play at left-back in addition to his natural centre-back role.

The 22-year-old is also highly efficient in a back three which would be quite helpful with the Reds enjoying success with their 3-box-3 formation which sees Trent Alexander-Arnold more central than before in his auxiliary midfield role.

Matip's ACL rupture is a real shame given he was in fine form. More disappointing, however, is that the Cameroonian may now have played his last game for the club as his contract expires at the end of the season.
