Roy Keane Loved Jurgen Klopp's Post-Match Interview After "Pub Defending" in 3-1 Arsenal Defeat

Roy Keane has come out praising Jurgen Klopp for his post-match honesty with the press after watching his side losing 3-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

What did Jurgen Klopp say?

Speaking to the press, the German admitted he and his players were not "good enough" as they attempted just one match in a match for the first time since August 2023 (vs. Chelsea).

“I would have loved to see the game longer at 1-1,” Klopp told BBC Sport post-match. “We found a way into the game. No shots on target but we scored a goal.

“Growing more into the game, second half, we had our moments and then we concede that goal. That doesn’t help. It just shows the boys are human beings. Today we were really human.

“The story of the second half we will never know how it would’ve been if we don’t concede the goal, but our two main guns have a misunderstanding.

“That just shows, I’ve said it a couple of times, they’re human beings. That actually makes the things they usually do even more special.

“Sometimes you forget that they are humans as well. For today, they are not happy, we are not happy. But that’s it now, I don’t need to make more of an away game at Arsenal.”

What was Roy Keane's reaction?

Former Manchester United midfielder and pundit Roy Keane surprisingly praised Klopp for his honest interview.

“I loved the interview, I think he is very honest, Klopp,” Keane said on Sky Sports after the game.

“I think he’s been calm there. He’s obviously got vast experience, he knows over the course of the season you have your ups and downs.

“For most of the season for Liverpool it’s been up so I get the balance right, I thought his piece was spot on.

“I’ve always enjoyed his stuff after games, I don’t think you get any bull from him, I enjoyed that, I thought it was pretty straightforward.

“Can you see that quality of the manager and that experience? ‘Everyone calm down, we’ll bounce back.'”

Of course, Roy Keane dished out some heavy criticism of Liverpool's "pub defending"

Liverpool conceded three goals to Arsenal and none of them were enjoyable viewing for Reds supporters.

Keane actually couldn't believe how bad the Reds were in what was the worst performance from Liverpool for quite some time.

The Sky Sports pundit said: "The intensity from the first whistle to the last from Liverpool, in possession and without, I can't believe how bad they were.

"Credit to Arsenal, they turned up, and were at it. Liverpool defensively, the goals they gave away, they were like a pub team defending."

What now for Liverpool?

As I wrote earlier today, it's not the time to start panicking.

It's just one defeat and it was to a very good side at a time when Liverpool were depleted. They're also still top of the Premier League with favourable games coming up.

Jurgen Klopp and his players just need to keep doing what they've already proved they can do: keep on winning games.

Not every match will be as difficult as facing Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side and while Burnley and Brentford are no pushovers, Liverpool are genuine title contenders and should be able to beat them with minimal fuss.

Things are also improving on the injury front. You can read more about injury updates on Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, Kostas Tsimikas and Stefan Bajcetic here.
