Arne Slot will take over as the Liverpool's new manager from Jurgen Klopp this summer after an agreement was reached with Feyenoord on Monday.

Slot's appointment comes after an extensive search and thorough consideration of various candidates, with the final decision influenced by a range of factors.

The Reds had initially been interested in Sporting Lisbon's exciting coach Ruben Amorim.

However, key aspects of his coaching philosophy and long-term vision eventually led Liverpool owners FSG to opt for a different direction.

According to journalist Melissa Reddy, who discussed the club's decision on Sky Sports, Amorim's preference for a three-at-the-back formation was a major sticking point for Liverpool's management.

This tactical approach did not align with Liverpool's existing squad structure and style of play.

The club's philosophy, which promotes a consistent playing style across all age groups, requires a manager whose tactics align with this approach.

“He had ticked quite a few of the criteria to get onto the shortlist but the big sticking point was that his playing philosophy was so different,” Reddy explained.

“He likes to use three at the back – that doesn’t really stack up with Liverpool’s squad and their comforts in doing that. Also, his long-term vision didn’t align with the Liverpool way.

"And, remember, Liverpool play the same way through all the age groups up, so you don’t want to disrupt that.”

Slot's appointment represents a significant change for the Merseyside club. The 45-year-old coach is known for his attacking style of play and focus on team cohesion, qualities that align with Liverpool's traditions and goals.

His success in guiding his previous teams to competitive success and his emphasis on developing young talent made him an attractive choice for Liverpool's future direction.

The new manager joins a club that has already secured Champions League qualification for the 2024/25 season, providing him with a solid foundation to build upon.

With a strong squad and a committed fan base, Slot will be expected to maintain Liverpool's competitive edge while also evolving the team's style to reflect his own coaching philosophy.

Liverpool fans and players will be eager to see how Slot's leadership shapes the team's journey in the coming season, and whether he can replicate the success and intensity that characterised Jurgen Klopp's tenure at Anfield.
