Arne Slot told to sign €85M magician: Liverpool "would be a nice club for him"

Incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot is being told to pursue a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutch coach will take Jurgen Klopp's place in the Anfield hot seat in the summer and already he is being linked with potential new signings.

The summer transfer window opens soon and although the season isn't over yet, clubs will already be putting plans in place to get their squads in order for the 2024/25 season.

Now, Slot is being encouraged to bring De Jong to Liverpool

Former Feyenoord player Kaj Ramsteijn has suggested it's the right move.

In an interview with Voetbal Primeur, Ramsteijn said de Jong should consider leaving Barcelona for Liverpool because it would give him a better chance to compete for trophies.

"Arne Slot to Liverpool, take Frenkie de Jong with you," Ramsteijn stated.

"I think Liverpool would be a great fit for him. He's so talented that he should be competing for trophies.

"While he did win the title with Barcelona last year, if Real Madrid signs Kylian Mbappé, they'll be champions for the next five seasons. Barcelona's financial situation makes it unlikely they'll keep pace.

"The Premier League seems like an ideal place for de Jong. He can play anywhere. He gets the ball, turns, and creates opportunities."

De Jong would be an awesome signing

De Jong, who would cost around €85 million (£72M), would be an awesome signing to see Liverpool make.

Ever since he broke through with Ajax, he's been one of my favourite players.

The Reds are in the market for a new midfielder with Thiago Alcantara on the way out and de Jong is one of the most technically similar players on the market.

The links will come thick and fast to every Dutch player of note now that Slot has been confirmed as the manager to replace Klopp.

If it happened, it would be one of the most exciting signings of the summer but it's not one to hold your breath for.
