Manchester United reached a full fee agreement worth €88M with FC Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong and reports now suggest Liverpool have tried their luck with a €71M bid.

The Dutchman has long-since been linked with a move away from Camp Nou with a few issues creeping up last season over game time, with de Jong pictured looking angry after being substituted.

Manchester United have been the strongest linked but Chelsea have also been very serious about recruiting him.

Personal terms, according to Romano, were still "the issue", stating that the player's priority is to stay in Barcelona.

Liverpool, as per claims from Spain, via Forbes, stated that the Reds have tried their luck with a bid worth £60M (€71m) bid.

If their offer is accepted and an agreement over personal terms with the player is reached, the 25-year-old could join Jurgen Klopp's side this summer.

There haven't been any corroborating stories so far but it's just the out-of-the-blue signing that can happen this late in the window.

Liverpool desperately need a RCM more than anything else.

Jude Bellingham is the priority target for the Reds but he is only able to join in 2023 due to Borussia Dortmund's refusal to sell.

That said, Bellingham only played 4 games at RCM last season which is where he would be used by Klopp. Frenkie, however, is much more accustomed to a right-sided role and could form a devastating trio with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

What de Jong would provide is a replacement for all of Georginio Wijnaldum's best traits which were lost when he left the club in 2021.

The former Liverpool no.6 was press resistant, calm under pressure and was able to stave off pressure in games with his economic use of the ball.

Liverpool have lacked stability in their midfield since Wijnaldum left and it would be fitting to solve that issue by signing his compatriot as he enters his prime.
