Saudi Pro League side wants to sign two Liverpool players for £0

Liverpool are set to release three players from their contracts at the end of the season as Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian get set to leave as free agents.

All three will be out of contract on June 30 2024 and it now seems as though the Saudi Pro League could welcome Thiago and Matip for next season.

In line with FIFA regulations, they're now free to hold talks with interested clubs without permission from Liverpool and a new report states that Al-Ettifaq could be the club to sign them.

Al-Ettifaq want to sign Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip when their Liverpool contracts expire

According to a report from 90 Min, Al-Ettifaq could return to sign Thiago and Matip after expressing interest in the summer before being rebuffed by Liverpool.

Steven Gerrard, the manager of the Saudi club, has been public about his need for new players but due to financial constraints, they will be unable to make any additions during the January transfer window.

Gerrard's links to Liverpool could be put to good use in the summer after signing Jordan Henderson before the start of the season.

The iconic Reds captain is also interested in signing former Liverpool winger Ryan Kent from Fenerbache.

As things stand, Al-Ettifaq do not want to sell Henderson and will demand "a significant fee" to allow him to leave.

Confirmed: Matip will not leave the club until the summer

This week, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that although Matip could join Al-Ettifaq in the summer, he won't leave Liverpool until the summer.

Romano said: “Despite talk of a possible move to Al-Ettifaq, Joel Matip won’t leave Liverpool now.

“In the summer it could be different and interest from Saudi can attract him.

“I also don’t see Joe Gomez leaving, he’s staying.”
