Fabrizio Romano confirms “no talks” for Thiago Alcantara “but could change in summer”

Thiago Alcantara is not in talks with Barcelona over a January transfer but that could change in the summer, reports Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

A report this week surfaced suggesting that the La Liga outfit is targeting a "dream" reuinion with the special midfielder to provide cover for Gavi after the teenager suffered an ACL rupture earlier this season.

Having been injured all season, Thiago is yet to play a match for Jurgen Klopp's side.

His contract expires at the end of the season but the German manager hopes he can count on the £200,000/week maestro to contribute when he returns to the side.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Thiago Alcantara is not in talks with Barcelona over January exit

Thiago is not in talks to leave Liverpool this month despite the speculation as the Reds are keen to hold onto him as the business end of the 2023/24 season gets underway.

In his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano reports: “Despite the rumours, no, I’m not aware of any movement for Thiago Alcantara right now.

“It’s a very quiet January for him so far, no talks and focus on Liverpool as he wants to return as soon as possible on the pitch. The story could change in the summer, but now it’s very quiet.”

Thiago is not leaving the club this month but will instead leave at the end of the season when his contract expires. FIFA rules enable him to begin holding talks with clubs interested in signing him as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

Thiago could return to team training in January as rehab takes shape

Thiago could soon be back in action for Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp told the press that he is expected to train with the full first team at some point this month.

The boss said: “I think Thiago will be at one point in team training [in January]. Thiago is in a very good moment as well but we just have to make sure we don’t use him then too early,” the German said on December 29.

“The hip thing in and around that area is just a long-term thing as well.

“There were for sure days where he could have easily trained but it’s all about how can he be back then in the long term, and that’s what we are working on.”
