Joel Matip will not leave Liverpool during the January transfer window but could move to the Saudi Pro League in the summer when his contract expires after eight years at the club.

The 32-year-old is currently sidelined after suffering an ACL tear and is expected to miss the rest of the season in a tragic blow that means he may well have already played his last game for the club.

If true, it will mark a sad end to a very memorable Liverpool career.

From hilarious moments to genuine class in the centre-back role, Matip will be fondly remembered as one of the best signings Jurgen Klopp ever made in the Anfield hot seat.

He will not, however, be leaving the club until the end of the season despite suggestions he could move to Saudi Arabia in the January transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano provides transfer update on Matip and Joe Gomez

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has quashed rumours over a potential winter transfer for Matip, reporting via Caught Offside.

He said: “Despite talk of a possible move to Al Ettifaq, Joel Matip won’t leave Liverpool now.

“In the summer it could be different and interest from Saudi can attract him.

“I also don’t see Joe Gomez leaving, he’s staying.”

Gomez is another player that will not leave Liverpool despite links to Spurs this month.
