Liverpool were linked with a move to sign Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo in the summer transfer window but he has recently been close to a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 18-year-old is one of Brazil's most exciting midfield talents but since Liverpool held talks in November, the trail has gone cold for the Merseysiders.

PSG have now been sent an ultimatum by new Corinthians president Augusto Melo regarding the "pending" transfer.

Moscardo was set to follow compatriot Lucas Beraldo in making the move to Paris but during his medical, a foot injury was picked up. The injury requires surgery and has now put a January transfer in doubt.

Melo has now called on PSG to either complete the transfer or send the player back to Brazil, as per Domingo.

The president said: “Either PSG pay now, or he comes back to Corinthians.

“If they don’t pay now, he’ll come back. I have asked for him to come back.

“If there is a risk that we aren’t paid, let him return to fitness here and we will be in a good position to sell him for even more in two months, he will be back.”

Liverpool could look to return for Moscardo themselves as they scour the market for a suitable defensive midfielder to replace Fabinho.

The teenager, however, does not have enough experience to warrant a starting place in the Reds' midfield and a move to Merseyside would be with a view for the long term.
