Liverpool in pole position to sign £51.4M goalscoring midfielder

Liverpool in pole position to sign £51.4M goalscoring midfielder

Liverpool, after bringing four midfielders on board last summer, are setting the stage for another high-profile acquisition.

Jurgen Klopp has worked miracles this season with his coaching and man-management giving Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Endo and Gravenberch the time and space to find their feet at Anfield.

The result has been some of the most fluid football we've seen Liverpool player since winning the Premier League title in 2020.

However, the Reds may take their midfield revolution further in the upcoming summer transfer window and Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is reportedly catching the eye.

What's the transfer latest on Teun Koopmeiners to Liverpool?

Liverpool's midfield transfer plans have seen them linked with several players, but Koopmeiners seems to be emerging as a prime target.

Recent reports from Italy suggest that Liverpool are in an advantageous position to sign the Dutch international.

Despite Juventus showing a strong interest in making Koopmeiners their marquee signing for the upcoming season, Liverpool appears to be leading the race for his signature, according to the print edition of La Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Paisley Gates,

The competition is heating up, with the Premier League giants looking to get ahead in the pursuit of the versatile midfielder.

Teun Koopmeiners, whose contract with Atalanta runs until 2027, has been a revelation in Serie A with his exceptional playmaking and goal-scoring abilities.

This season, the 26-year-old has 10 goals and four assists which is more than any Liverpool midfielder has achieved this term.

Atalanta has reportedly set a base price of £51.4 million (€60 million) for their star midfielder. However, the Italian club might be willing to negotiate down to €50 million, but only if there isn't a bidding war for his services over the summer.

The 26-year-old has demonstrated his versatility by excelling in both defensive and offensive roles in midfield. His performance this season has been particularly noteworthy; Koopmeiners has shone in the No. 10 role, contributing 10 goals and 4 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

This goal-scoring prowess from midfield is something Liverpool may be eager to integrate into their squad, especially given that their current top-scoring midfielders, Curtis Jones and Szoboszlai, have only netted five times this campaign.

To be fair, that's much better than last season already.
