Liverpool "closely" tracking Leroy Sane as potential summer transfer is considered

Liverpool continue to be linked with Leroy Sane with his Bayern Munich contract future unresolved.

The German forward has nine goals and seven assists in all competitions this season and is showing Europe why he is one of the best attackers on the continent.

In June 2025, his contract will expire unless Bayern can negotiate an extension to keep him at the Allianz Arena.

This has, naturally, sparked interest from the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid.

This week, reliable German journalist Christian Falk reported on Sane's future, writing that the player will hold contract talks with Bayern after the international break.

What's the latest on Liverpool's interest in Leroy Sane?

Sane already earns circa €20 million per year with the Bundesliga outfit with his weekly wages currently around €384,000 (£336,000/week).

Now, Jan Aage Fjortoft has reported on Sane's future via Twitter.

He said: "RE: Leroy Sane. Contract till 25.

"Bayern have started talking about an extension.

"Liverpool following his situation closely, Manchester City would love him back and Real Madrid is always on a player’s mind.

"Got a feeling that Bayern will get him to sign."

Sane speaks on his future

On Friday evening, Fabrizio Romano shared quotes from Sane as his future continues to be the subject of intense speculation.

The winger said: “I haven't given it any thought yet. The club wants to have talks, but at the moment I want to focus on this season.

“FC Bayern remains my first point of contact, there's no doubt about that”.

If Mohamed Salah leaves the club, which is a big if after comments from David Ornstein, then Sane is one of the most naturally suited to replacing him at Anfield.

Of course, he used to play for Manchester City which could complicate things but if Jurgen Klopp wants a player that is capable of coming close to the levels Salah has with Liverpool, Sane is one of the best options.

His wages are huge but if Bayern are fearful they will lose him for free in 2025 when his contract expires, Liverpool can negotiate a fee lower than the reported £80 million price point.
