Liverpool plotting to sign £120M beast that "was open to a move" - will get his chance

Liverpool plotting to sign £120M beast that "was open to a move" - will get his chance

Liverpool are reportedly plotting a move to sign Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill as their search for a new centre-back continues.

The English centre-back has been forced to play out of position for the vast majority of his game time this season after being promised by Mauricio Pochettino that he would be a regular starter at Stamford Bridge.

While that has been true, he has not played where he expected to.

In 26 appearances this season, just nine have come in central defence while he has been played at left-back 16 times.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool "retain an interest" in the 20-year-old while Graeme Bailey reports that the Reds are "ready to test Chelsea's resolve" given their need to sell players to meet FFP regulations.

Levi Colwill was "open to" move before new contract

Before signing a new £75,000 per week contract in August 2023, Colwill was reportedly open to leaving Chelsea before being given assurances over playing time by Pochettino.

Liverpool could look to take advantage of this as they plot a move for the former Brighton loanee.

While the Reds are looking at overseas defenders like Ousmane Diomande and Leny Yoro, the issue they present is they will require non-homegrown spots in the Liverpool squad.

This is a transfer consideration that often gets overlooked in transfer reports but it's an issue that would not be present in a move to sign Colwill.

How much would Chelsea hope to sell Colwill for?

According to football.london, Chelsea value the young centre-back at as much as £120 million which would certainly pause Liverpool's interest.

The Reds signed Virgil van Dijk, who was destined to become the best centre-back on the planet for £75 million, so Liverpool will need to decide whether or not they envisage Colwill reaching the same heights.

He's very talented but there's a very low chance Liverpool break the £100 million barrier for the first time to sign him when there are currently a large number of top young central defenders in the market.
