“My information”: Fabrizio Romano on €60M transfer Liverpool are poised to complete

Liverpool are poised to complete a €60 million move to sign Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice in the summer but Fabrizio Romano has now provided his sources' perspective on the transfer chase.

The need for a centre-back signing at Anfield has been the subject of intense speculation since Joel Matip tore his ACL in mid-December.

The injury required surgery which Liverpool officially reported was a successful operation.

However, he may still not play another game for the club with his contract set to expire in the summer.

Now, Todibo has emerged as an exciting target to replace him in the summer.

Better yet, Liverpool are said to be favourites ahead of Manchester United although Fabrizio Romano reports that he hasn't been told this.

This week, a report from Nice-Matin, a source close to the Ligue 1 club, claimed that Liverpool are in the driving seat to sign Jean-Clair Todibo.

The source states that the 24-year-old is "very close" to Liverpool centre-back and compatriot Ibrahima Konate with the French duo potentially the future of Jurgen Klopp's central defence.

Manchester United are also interested in the six foot three defender but, according to Nice-Matin's claim, they don't stand as good a chance of signing Todibo as Liverpool do.

However, Italian journalist and transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano reports that this claim is wide of the mark.

Writing for Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano has refuted Nice-Matin's claim that Liverpool are in pole position to sign Todibo.

Instead, he suggests that the French defenders future will become clearer "in the next months."

“Let me clarify once again, there are no clear favourites for the signature of Jean-Clair Todibo, and the expectation is for him to move in the summer, not now,” Romano reports.

“It will take time before we know who the favourite is and what kind of evolution there will be in the next months.

“My information remains that OGC Nice don’t want to sell Todibo in January.”
