“Is it £700K/week, is it £350K/week?” Major sticking point on 2024 transfer revealed

A return to the Premier League is unlikely for former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, according to pundit Garth Crooks.

The Englishman has been linked with a return to England after just six months in the Saudi Pro League although one thing is certain: Hendo will not return to Anfield.

Liverpool sold Henderson in the summer after a meeting with Jurgen Klopp over the expectation that his minutes would be reduced if he were to stay at the club for the 2023/24 season.

He moved to Saudi Arabia but could now return to the Premier League or another European club.

Henderson contract demands will be too high for Premier League clubs

Speaking on talkSPORT transfer expert Gareth Crooks revealed a return to England for Henderson is unlikely at the moment.

He said: “I think on his current salary, obviously we’re hearing different amounts, is it £700,000-a-week, is it £350,000-a-week.

“Either way, when it comes to the Premier League, I think there’s very little chance of any club matching that salary which is going to make it difficult for Henderson to come back to English football at this moment in time.”

How much does Henderson earn at Al-Ettifaq?

While some reports have suggested that Jordan Henderso earns a whopping tax-free £700,000 per week, the truth is that he earns around half that.

Still, £350,000/week or thereabouts is still crazy money. After just six months in Saudi that means he already stands to have made £2.1 million. Not bad at all.

Henderson more likely to join a club in Europe

Crooks continued, adding that a move to a European clubs seems the likelier outcome for Henderson in the January transfer window.

He said: “We’ve mentioned already some European clubs who he has been offered to, the likes of Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen over in Germany.

“Napoli have been mentioned to me as well in Italy and obviously Ajax this morning. So, I think if Jordan Henderson does leave Saudi Arabia that’s by no means guaranteed, we’ve been hearing from Ben Jacobs over the last 48 hours that Al-Ettifaq and the Saudi Pro League don’t particularly want to lose Jordan Henderson, then I think a move to Europe is the strongest possibility.

“But certainly Henderson is pushing to get out and the fear that he won’t be selected by Gareth Southgate for the Euros at the end of the season is the biggest factor.”
