Haaland to Madrid, Mbappe to Liverpool: Reports suggest dream transfer scenario is possible

Liverpool could sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer uncontested amid reports that Real Madrid are interested in triggering Erling Haaland’s release clause in the summer.

The 2024 summer transfer window is set to be a pivotal one in the future context of Europe's top clubs' constant struggle for supremacy.

Manchester City took a huge step towards setting themselves up for the next several years by signing Haaland in 2022. The Norwegian is under contract until 2027 but there are now reports that Real Madrid want to take him to Spain after being rebuffed by Mbappe.

Although Jurgen Klopp's priority is to sign a centre-back and a defensive midfielder, the German is constantly linked with new attackers. This month, a multitude of sources around Europe claim Liverpool are in the race to sign Mbappe.

It remains a fantasy signing.

One way this fantasy could get better would be if it meant Pep Guardiola simultaneously also lost Haaland in the process.

It would deprive the Premier League of a 'galactico' battle akin to what we saw in La Liga between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo but Haaland leaving the Etihad would be better for Liverpool's chances of winning the title in future seasons.

Erling Haaland would “sign for Real Madrid tomorrow”

According to a report from Spanish outlet AS, Erling Haaland woud "sign for Real Madrid tomorrow" if given the opportunity.

Since joining City, the 23-year-old has further solidified his case for being the best striker in the world, scoring an astounding 52 goals.

He has had injury struggles this season and yet has still scored 19 goals.

How much is Erling Haaland’s release clause worth?

This is speculation as the true nature of the clause in his contract is unconfirmed but AS reports that he could join Madrid for around €100 million (£86M) if they trigger his release clause.

However, that seems quite low for a player of his talents.

His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has refused to reveal the actual figure in his contract that can be paid to force Man City's hand, saying: "Erling is the master of his destiny."

If Madrid pivot to sign Haaland, that would give Liverpool an uncontested pathway to signing Mbappe as a free agent when his PSG contract expires at the end of the season.

Reports suggest Liverpool will hold crucial talks to sign Mbappe in the "coming weeks" as the Merseysiders take their shot at convincing the French superstar to move to Anfield.

It's a signing that would truly elevate Liverpool 2.0 after Jurgen Klopp got it right with his midfield rebuild. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szboszlai have been outstanding while Wataru Endo rose to the occasion in a major way before leaving to join Japan for the Asian Cup in Qatar

A Liverpool move to sign Mbappe rests almost entirely on their ability to afford a deal that at first look appears to be out of the realms of possibility.

Mbappe earns a whopping £1.2 million per week at PSG but that will certainly not be on offer when Liverpool hold talks with the striker and his entourage this week.

It remains to be seen if these talks will have any bearing on his decision-making after a statement was released in response to claims he has already agreed to join Real Madrid.

His camp released a statement to RMC Sport:

It reads: "There is no agreement about Kylian's future, especially as there are no discussions underway about it.

"No type of influence could dictate the timing of Kylian's discussions, reflections or decisions."
