Liverpool “negotiate key signature” amid Kylian Mbappe transfer saga

Extending Mohamed Salah’s contract is reportedly Liverpool’s primary objective amid talk of a summer transfer move for Kylian Mbappe.

This year has begun with Liverpool in fine with the Reds fighting for silverware on all four fronts. They remain top of the Premier League table and after beating Arsenal 2-0 in the FA Cup third round, they are still in all three knockout tournaments.

The Gunners were dispatched without several key players, including Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Salah is at AFCON while captain van Dijk missed through illness.

On the Dutchman, Klopp said: “[He is] ill."

When asked when if he will be fit to face Fulham, he said: “Yes, I’m hopeful, but I don’t know. He came and [had to leave]. It’s difficult for Virg to look shit, but he did, and so we sent him home again.”

According to Spanish publication El Nacional, Liverpool's "primary objective this summer" is to extend Mohamed Salah's contract with January 2024 marking the final year and a half of his deal.

The attacker signed a three-year contract extension in July 2022 worth £350,000 per week. 30 June 2025 marks the expiry of his contract and with it has come boundless speculation over a transfer to the Saudi Pro League.

He has been linked with a move to Anfield too which has led supporters to dream of what it would be like to have Mbappe and Salah in the same attack.

Despite claims from France, Mbappe has not reached an agreement to join Real Madrid in the summer although it does remain as the likeliest outcome given how much the striker earns at PSG.
