The four problems with Liverpool’s reported plan to sign £150 million superstar

Italian radio station, Radio Kiss Kiss, has ignited transfer rumours claiming Liverpool are keen on signing Napoli’s prolific striker, Victor Osimhen this summer.

The link, however, is quite surprising, considering the impressive range of attacking options that Jurgen Klopp already has at his disposal.

In a live broadcast, Italian journalist and director of Kiss Kiss, Valter De Maggio, shed light on the Reds' supposed interest.

"There is strong, strong interest in Liverpool’s Victor Osimhen,” he remarked.

“It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will put pressure on Osimhen’s agent not to renew his contract with Napoli."

Despite these claims, there seem to be four main obstacles that make the chances of this transfer succeeding remote.

Firstly, Liverpool have a glittering array of attacking talent already

With Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo at Klopp's disposal, Liverpool's attack is already finely balanced.

It's by no means perfect but the German has a solution for most problems his side might face during a game.

Adding Osimhen into the mix could upset this harmony, making this move somewhat redundant.

It would be incredible to have Osimhen at Anfield but it just doesn't really seem to be one that Liverpool are seriously thinking about with finding an heir to Mohamed Salah far more important in an attacking sense.

Secondly, the financial implications of this transfer seem unrealistic.

Liverpool's owners, FSG, are unlikely to consider a whopping £150 million fee to land one player, even if it is a player of Osimhen's calibre.

The striker played a starring role for Napoli last season, scoring 31 goals in all competitions in the process, and would be a terrific player to have at Anfield.

But it just seems far too unrealistic to have any truthful origins.

The third issue lies in the position that Osimhen plays

If Liverpool are eyeing him as a potential replacement for Salah, it would be foolish as Osimhen operates best as a central striker and not as a right winger, a position that Salah has no peer in.

The Egyptian has 208 goal contributions from the right wing - a feat only Thierry Henry (249) and Ryan Giggs (271) have bettered from the flank in Premier League history.

Salah is closing in on overtaking Steven Gerrard to take his place as the player with the 10th most goal contributions of all time.

Links to Leroy Sane make far more sense given his Premier League pedigree and excellence from the right wing. He's won the title twice with Manchester City and last season, he scored

Finally, there's the fierce competition for Osimhen's signature

Some of the biggest clubs in Europe are all reportedly interested in the Nigerian hitman, making it likely that a bidding war will ensue which is hardly type of transfer Liverpool get involved with.

Given the other potential hurdles mentioned above, it may be advisable for Liverpool to seek talent elsewhere instead of fighting an uphill and potentially costly battle.

All in all, the trustworthiness of this rumour seems questionable at best.
