Liverpool will receive 20 percent of the profit Bournemouth make on the sale of Dominic Solanke and Newcastle United have been linked with a £40 million move to sign him in January.

The 26-year-old has been simply phenomenal this season and currently ranks as the third most prolific striker in the Premier League with 13 goals after 20 games.

Bournemouth have been very grateful for his goalscoring form as his goals have enabled them to avoid the relegation conversation this term.

But now, Newcastle manager Eddie How says his club cannot afford to sign Solanke, dashing Liverpool hopes of a £3.2 million windfall.

If Solanke were to complete a £40M transfer, Liverpool would be due £3.2M but that seems unlikely to happen this month.

Newcastle find themselves under pressure from the Premier League to settle a £105 million loss after their accounts came under scrutiny.

Eddie Howe has since been asked about the chances of a move to sign Solanke.

He told the press: "Yes, a frustrating story for me because, yes I love Dominic Solanke, I signed him (for Bournemouth) and I rate him very, very highly.

"But we have not made an enquiry for him and we don't have the ability to sign a player of that level."
