Despite Liverpool and Chelsea talks for £100M midfield signing, his club will not sell him

Liverpool have been linked with a sensational transfer for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes but despite holding talks before the start of the season, he has been declared as not for sale until the summer.

Magpies CEO, Darren Eales, gave a statement this week amid close scrutiny of their financials. They are reportedly under pressure from the Premier League to conform with Profit and Sustainability rules.

The league's governing body demands that clubs not spend more than their profits allow and Newcastle have a £105 million bill to settle as a result of pricey transfers.

When asked if financial pressure will force them into selling their best players, Eales said: "It’s difficult to say specifically on certain players, but I can say that, if we’re going to get to where we want to get to, at times it is necessary to trade your players."

Despite the CEO's admission, Newcastle will reportedly not consider offers for Bruno Guimares which will come as a blow to Liverpool and Chelsea specifically.

Liverpool held summer talks to sign Guimaraes but he is not for sale despite Newcastle financial pressure

Both Liverpool and Chelsea reportedly held talks with Newcastle in the summer to enquire over signing the Brazilian midfielder.

They were told he wasn't for sale before the midfielder signed a new £120,000-a-week contract in October 2023.

The two Premier League clubs are the "most interested" in signing Guimaraes but they will have to either bide their time until such a point that he is available to make their move.

Or they will need to move on from their interest and seek other suitable targets to replenish the defensive midfield department.

Jurgen Klopp remains in need of a specialist no.6 although Wataru Endo has exceeded expectations and is now a more than capable option in the defensive midfield role.
