Liverpool eyeing £100,000/week Arsenal star and could sign him for just £21.5million

Liverpool are reportedly monitoring Granit Xhaka along with Juventus, PSG, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Man City and signing him would cost £21.5million (€25m).

The 29-year-old earned himself a few fans this summer with a few outstanding performances for Switzerland at the EUROs, including a dominant display in midfield against France.

He's often lambasted for the way he has played for Arsenal in the past but he showed a level that he has failed to reach consistently in the Premier League.

Up against Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante, Xhaka excelled but in spite of an impressive EURO 2020 tournament, he is not at the level required by Liverpool.

Liverpool 'tracking' Granit Xhaka

Liverpool are in the market to sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum but Xhaka is surely not the player to replace him as they have drastically different styles of play.

However, it's claimed by Transfermarketweb that Xhaka has caught the eye of Juventus, PSG, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City.

After five years with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium where he was reportedly paid £100,000/week, he is set to leave and Liverpool could allegedly sign Xherdan Shaqiri's compatriot for £21.5million (€25m).

Xhaka no longer a good fit for Liverpool

The Reds tried to sign him in 2016 but he revealed that as soon as he learned Arsene Wenger wanted him, choosing Arsenal over the Reds was an easy choice.

He might have been a good player for Jurgen Klopp but at this stage in Liverpool's development, he is not a good fit and with rumours suggesting he will move to AS Roma, I think he'd excel in Serie A as Lucas Leiva has with Lazio.

If Liverpool are going to sign an Arsenal midfielder, it should be Joe Willock.

The young midfielder scored a 95th-minute equaliser against the Merseysiders for Newcastle United while on loan and I'm a huge fan of his goalscoring instinct.

I wrote a longer article on it a month ago but it's unlikely the Gunners will let him go after how he performed for the Magpies last season.
