Liverpool are reportedly preparing a new contract for Curtis Jones as a reward for his continued development.

While he was the subject of much misplaced criticism last season, the Scouser has flourished this season.

His tidy control and positive passing have contributed considerably to Liverpool's Premier League title charge and he has even been the subject of Arsenal interest.

Jurgen Klopp recently described the midfielder as "technically incredibly skilled" and that's pretty much the perfect way to put it.

He burst onto the scene as an attacking midfielder and while that may still be the case, he has also demonstrated brilliant tactical understanding in a left-sided box-to-box role.

Reportedly, this has all earned him a new contract. According to Anfield Watch, Liverpool are preparing a new contract to tie him down beyond his current contract's expiry date of 30 June 2027.

There may still be three years left on his terms but it's never a bad idea to keep your best players protected from transfer interest and it's obvious that Jones is only going to keep developing.

Still only 22, there is a lot more to come from a player that has spent his entire footballing life at Liverpool.

Much like Trent Alexander-Arnold, he could go down as one of the best Scousers to play for the club if he reaches his full potential.

As long as Jurgen Klopp is still at the club, that seems likely. And there are reports suggesting the German is open to renewing his own contract...
