Liverpool will appeal Curtis Jones red card and suspension

Liverpool are set to appeal the red card issued to Curtis Jones for his challenge on Yves Bissouma on Saturday.

The 22-year-old was one of two players to be sent off with Diogo Jota sent off for receiving two yellow cards within 90 seconds.

The Times' Paul Joyce reports that Liverpool are "to appeal against the red card given to Curtis Jones".

Given that the midfielder was not reckless in his attempt to win the ball but was simply unlucky that his ball slipped over the ball and onto Bissouma.

The way referee Simon Hooper was presented a freeze frame of the challenge initially before the full clip played certainly could have biased his decision.

Nothing has been said yet whether or not Liverpool will appeal Jota's red card and one-game suspension but if anything is reported, this article will be update.

Four red cards have been shown to Liverpool players in the Premier League this season - the same number they have received in their previous 168 games.

It's extremely out of character for a Jurgen Klopp team but with inconsistency rife in referee performances this season, the German won't be too harsh on his players.
