Underrated star got 100% pass accuracy at Tottenham: Key to Liverpool 2.0

Curtis Jones received his marching orders for a tackle on Spurs midfielder Yves Bissouma after 26 minutes but until then he was on his way to another fine display.

The club are set to appeal the decision in the hopes of overturning the three-game ban that accompanies a red card.

While many fans dreamed of midfield combinations in the summer that rarely ever seemed to feature Curtis Jones, the 22-year-old has been extremely impressive this season.

In fact, his fine form began at the end of last season when the Reds put a run of wins together after Jurgen Klopp switched his system to feature a 3-2-2-3 in possession to utilise Trent Alexander-Arnold in a hybrid midfield role.

Signing Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister has restored creativity and technical proficiency to the Liverpool engine room.

Curtis Jones is a key player for Liverpool 2.0

Jones, whose passing has been clinical this season, has become a vital player for Klopp's Liverpool 2.0.

He burst onto the scene as a flashy attacking midfielder but recently, the England U21 Euro Team of the Tournament nominee has been emulating Georginio Wijnladum in his displays on the left of midfield.

Dismissed after 26 minutes, Jones only had an impact of a quarter of the fixture but his stats from that cameo were impressive and in keeping with his recent form.

Before being sent off, he recorded a 100% pass accuracy albeit from only eight attempts. It would have been a continuation of his efficient form in the opening stages of the campaign.

This season, Jones has averaged 91% pass accuracy which is elite regardless of past performances. Still only 22, the sky is really the limit for the Scouser.

Supporters that are finding it difficult to accept Jones in the starting XI need to rewatch clips of Wijnaldum at Liverpool and they'll be more at ease with the Academy product in the side.

If Klopp can't get Jones' red card overturned, he will miss every Premier League fixture in October as a result. This will be a major blow but it could open a few options for the Reds.

Both Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo would be grateful for a chance to stake their claim on a berth in midfield.

Bringing Endo into the side would allow Klopp to push Alexis Mac Allister further forward into his preferred no.8 role while Gravenberch could simply slot into Jones' left-sided no.8 role.

However impressive Endo and Gravenberch have been in their cameos, they still need time to adjust to what Klopp wants from them tactically.
