Three realistic January signings Liverpool can complete after Gary Neville transfer prediction

The January transfer window is officially open and Liverpool are one of the sides linked with new signings.

Jurgen Klopp has somehow managed to guide his side to the top of the Premier League despite overhauling his midfield entirely and battling with an injury crisis in defence.

Ahead of Liverpool's 4-2 win over Newcastle United at Anfield on Monday evening, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville discussed the league leaders' needs in the transfer market for Sky Sports.

What did Gary Neville say?

Speaking on the Anfield touchline, Gary Neville said: "I wonder if they'll have sneaky dabble in the transfer market.

"I wonder whether they think adding something to their squad would give them that difference. It's up for grabs there's no doubt about that."

On the needs of Jurgen Klopp's side, Carragher added: I feel Liverpool have to bring a defender in in January."

Three realistic signings Liverpool can complete in January

Joao Palhinha

Joao Palhinha is perhaps the most ideal no.6 available on the market and would instantly upgrade Liverpool's midfield.

After missing out on a move to Bayern Munich in the summer, the 28-year-old may jump at the chance to join Liverpool especially given that Fulham seem prepared to let him leave for the right price.

It will reportedly cost £55 million to sign Palhinha in January or the summer but even at that price point, it would be an excellent signing for Liverpool.

His impact on the Reds' starting lineup would be so game-changing that it seems like a no-brainer.

Goncalo Inacio

The Portugal international is one of the most exciting defenders in his age group. At 22, the future of his career is fully ahead of him.

Inacio is probably one of the best options out there for Liverpool to take their squad to new heights. At £52 million, he won't come cheap but it wouldn't be money badly spent either.

Reports suggest that Liverpool are one of the Premier League sides pushing hard to secure his signature.

Excitingly, Sporting seem to have signed his replacement as they believe it's "inevitable" that he leaves the club.

Antonee Robinson

Another Fulham star, Robinson has been suggested as an option to help Liverpool cope with their left-back injury crisis. At. present, Klopp doesn't have a senior left-back available to him.

Andy Robertson was the first to be sidelined after dislocating his shoulder on international duty with Scotland before Bukayo Saka's challenge on Kostas Tsimikas catapulted the Greek fullback into Jurgen Klopp resulting in a broken collarbone.

According to reports, Robinson is prepared to agree a move to Liverpool if they come knocking.

The 26-year-old has been fantastic this season and if the Reds decide they need an emergency left-back signing, the Fulham star is one of the best value-for-money options out there.
