Nathaniel Phillips' exit from Anfield is imminent

Nathaniel Phillips' exit from Anfield is imminent with interest from Championship and European sides mounting.

Goal reporter Neil Jones reports that the 26-year-old will "surely" leave the club this summer and that his departure is "a matter of time" with interest coming from several Championship sides as well Dutch and German teams.

Speaking to Empire of the Kop, he said: “Nat Phillips will surely leave. He’s had an injury and so hasn’t featured so far in pre-season.

“Leeds are not the only club at the table – several in the Championship, Germany and the Netherlands have enquired. A matter of time, I’d say, and a case of the player picking the right option for himself.”

On Monday, Anfield Central reported on Leeds United reaching "advanced talks" with Liverpool for the centre-back. Having already agreed on a £10 million fee with add-ons included, Rudy Galetti states that "some details" are being discussed.

With Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez ahead of him in the centre-back pecking order, there is little chance of Phillips featuring for Liverpool beyond a handful of appearances in the cup tournaments and perhaps the Europa League.

Last season, he only played 368 minutes or the equivalent of four games. In fact, Phillips has only featured for Liverpool for a total of 2,176 minutes and has never shown signs of forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp's lineup.

A move to the Championship would be a good move. It would give the 26-year-old a chance to get more minutes and develop his game more than he will simply training at Liverpool with top players.

Phillips has achieved pretty much everything he can at Anfield but it's time to move on.

Fans won't forget his performances in the 2020/21 campaign, helping the Reds claim a top four spot against all odds.
