Liverpool in "advanced talks" with Leeds over Nathaniel Phillips

Liverpool and Leeds United are in "advanced talks" over a deal to take Nathaniel Phillips to Elland Road for around £10 million.

Jurgen Klopp wants to add another centre-back to his squad this summer but is ready to let Phillips leave with it unlikely the 26-year-old will feature much for the Reds this season.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Liverpool and Leeds are in "advanced talks" and are discussing "some details" that remain after agreeing on a £10 million fee with add-ons included.

The Englishman has been at Liverpool since 2016 and is loved by many fans after his heroic role in the Reds qualifying for the 2021/22 Champions League campaign.

While Jurgen Klopp wanted Levi Colwill at the club, the young defender has agreed on a new long-term contract with Chelsea last week.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Reds were also interested in RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol before Manchester City signed him,

He said: “Liverpool have always been really interested in Josko Gvardiol."

Whether Klopp will be able to sign a new defender this summer remains to be seen although investment is needed more in the middle of the park where Liverpool continue to play hardball with Southampton over a fee for Romeo Lavia.

Saints chief executive Phil Parsons has even sent a warning to Liverpool, warning they are not under pressure to sell assets "on the cheap".

They failed with an initial offer of £34m plus £4m in bonuses while their second offer of £42m was also rejected.

Southampton are prepared to stand firm while Liverpool, who do no consider the 19-year-old to be ready to start, do not value him at £50m.

With the Premier League season kicking off on Friday, Liverpool are under serious pressure to complete their summer business.
